Curriculum

The teachers at Auckland Point School are passionate about providing a rich, positive and a hands on learning environment. The New Zealand Curriculum is delivered and children are encouraged to develop inquiry and collaborative skills. This involves the teaching of a balanced programme with an emphasis on English and Maths.

Science, Social Science, Technology, P.E./Health, Visual Art, Music, Drama, and Dance, are delivered as integrated/inquiry units. The children are also encouraged to be self managing and motivated. The aim is to develop life long learners.

There are many opportunities during the year for teachers and parents to share information on student progress and achievement. Early in Term 1 there is a ‘Meet the Teacher’ session when teachers outline programmes of work, explain routines, and discuss work and behavioural expectations.

3 – Way – Conferences to set learning goals and discuss student’s progress are held in Terms 1 and 3. Written reports are sent home at mid year and the end of the year. The school reports on student achievement relevant to the National Standard in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. The other learning areas including the Key Competencies and Values are also reported on at these times.
